2nd Place – Northeast Ohio Show at Stella’s Gallery
What a strange time to be exhibiting, but here we are in the middle of a pandemic! I am thrilled to announce that Lake Erie Sunset has won a 2nd Place award in the Northeast Ohio-themed juried exhibition at Stella’s Gallery in Downtown Willoughby, Ohio!
Thank you so much to Dani Klein and all the resident artists for welcoming me to Stella’s Art Gallery, to the judges and all the amazing artists who are sharing their incredible work in this show. This is my first show at Stella’s, and hopefully not my last!
The artists were given time slots to choose from to come and visit the exhibition, so my husband and I decided to go on our anniversary! The award was a nice bonus to help us celebrate 7 years.
Lake Erie Sunset was photographed on 35mm color film in 2000, very early in my photography career. We had a bonfire on the beach near my home. While friends were skipping stones and making s’mores, I was sitting by the shore holding as still as I could with my camera shutter speed set to varying times, trying to capture the motion of the waves and the clouds as the sun set over Lake Erie.
When the prints & negatives came back from the lab, this frame stood out. With an extra long exposure of 10, 30 maybe even 60 seconds, and no tripod, this wispy, ethereal image appeared on my roll of film. Its mystery and magic has made it one of my most favorite photographs still to this day.
The framed & signed show piece is for sale at Stella’s Gallery. There are also unsigned prints available in my shop on Made Cleveland!
